FINDING THE FUNNY-Why Women Rule the World

Monday, August 15th, 2011

This joke made me laugh out loud given the article I recently wrote on Caregiving.

Eleven people – ten men and one woman – were hanging onto a rope from a helicopter after a mountain climbing rescue. Before long, the rope began to fray because of their combined weight, so they all agreed that one person should get off – but they couldn't decide which one. Finally, the woman gave a really touching speech, saying how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving up things for their husbands and children, and giving in to men, and never receiving anything in return. When she finished speaking, all the men started clapping.

CBL#125 – Clinical Look at Sexual Satisfaction and Fulfillment

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

How important do you think sex is to your overall health?

In this episode of CoachBettyLIVE, we open the conversation about the connection between sexual health and overall health.  Women's Health Expert, Karen Carlson, and Coach Betty talk about what a wise nurse practitioner advises her patients on their sexual fulfillment.  Karen suggests that sex is as important as eating and exercise to our health and well being!  Listen to the entire interview below and enjoy a slice of her wisdom of over 18 years of working with women.  Her thoughts directly address this ever-rising issue of womens' sexual dysfunction issues.

CoachBettyLIVE with Karen Carlson – click here

Karen discusses the three most common complaints regarding sexual satisfaction and fulfillment:  pain, dryness, and lack of desire.  Karen empowers them to talk to their partner, as it has been documented that women don't talk to friends or family about their sexual experiences which leaves many women left uncertain about what to expect during sex.

Karen Carlson is a highly skilled, well respected primary care nurse practitioner treating adults at the University of Washington's Women's Health Care Center on the Roosevelt campus. One of Karen's gift is to provide a safe, compassionate and holistic approach to discussing all health issues with her women patients.  She is one of only 3-5 % of health care providers that talk with women about sexual satisfaction!!

She is also clinical faculty and preceptor for nurse practitioner students from the University of Washington's School of Nursing, and clinical preceptor for medical students at the University of Washington's School of Medicine.  We are so fortunate to have her expertise and compassion teaching others.

I know how fortunate we are to have Karen's expertise in the world, because she and I have been best friends for over 40 years!!

WHOA Baby#7: Anti-aging aspect of Sex

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

I am stunned and amazed with all I am learning about the health benefits of having regular sex.   NOTE:  I am talking about healthy, loving and consensual sex.

This is just in from Scotland, Edinburgh Hospital.

Dr. David Weeks studied 3,500 Americans and Europeans from ages 18-102, and found that only 25% of youthful looks is due to genetics.  The rest of youthful looks is related to behavior.  When he examined sexual behavior, he reports that having sex 3 times a week can make you look a decade younger.

Check out the whole article, Vitamin S:  Monogamous, Safe Sex a Super Potent Package of Health Boosting Effects.

Sex as a healing modality is ancient wisdom, and also available to us without cost.  We carry this healing power around with us wherever we go.

First step to fabulous sex is to fall in love with yourself!

Pause, Look in the Mirror, and ask “Who Loves Ya Baby?”

CoachBettyLIVE #105 – Music from France with Fa7 and Ti Harmon

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

This show was inspirational for me.  I had the pleasure of talking to musicians in France about their perspectives and stories with the healing power of music. Fa7 (Fabrice Mareau) and Ti Harmon had encouraging thoughts about how we can make this world a better place to live through music.

Play

Fa7 is a musician and artist in France and travels extensively visiting Europe then Africa, making friends in passage with people of all social and geographical origins. His guitar and his song writing are his expression and vision for how to assist healing the world which encircles it.

His unique music is composed in nature, and varies depending on the landscapes.  Tune into his CD “La Brise” to hear the sounds of the water in Guadeloupe, and the sounds of the stones in France.  See if you can feel into where he composed it.

Always nomadic mind…learn more about Fa7, his music, and his world projects on MySpace/Fa7Music.

Ti (pronounced tai) Harmon is originally from Philadelphia. She began singing at the age of five, when she was the first to eagerly volunteer for the solo in her kindergarten Christmas concert. She has since honed her skills performing in New York, Madrid, and Paris. After completing her theatre studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, she founded Rize Theatre and Dance Company. She then moved to Madrid where she decided to focus on music.

She now calls upon the total of her experiences to find her unique musical universe: a sweet Jazz mixed with Soul, Folk, and Blues.

The band consists of Ti Harmon (Voice/Songwriter), Germain Guyot (Paino/Songwriter), Thomas Hugenel (Bass/Songwriter), Stephane Berti (Guitar), and Martin Wangermée (Drums). The group has been working together for over a year and combines styles and creative ideas to arrive at their distinct sound. The group debuted its project at the Fronteny Jazz Festival in August 2009.

Coach Betty LIVE! #98 – Backstage with Simon Bartholomew and Jan Kincaid

Friday, August 6th, 2010

This special podcast captures a few moments backstage with Simon Bartholomew and Jan Kincaid from “The Brand New Heavies.” Listen in to see what they have to say about the healing powers of music.

Coach Betty and Simon Bartholomew

Simon Bartholomew, guitarist to ‘The Brand New Heavies‘ is a modern day renaissance man of many talents and interests. One fan has described Bartholomew’s guitar playing as: “a timely late 90s reminder that the guitar can be a delicately versatile tool, percussive and fluid as required…” However, this is not the only talent that Bartholomew possesses; his dexterity goes far beyond the mere strings of a guitar. Since forming ‘The Heavies’ (as he affectionately likes to call then) with school mates Andrew and Jay, Bartholomew has been involved in numerous other bands including ‘Akimbo’ and ’1ibear’, both of whom are from the same acid jazz genre. Surprisingly, however, when asked what his own musical influences are Bartholomew discloses that he is secretly a bit of a rocker. Jan Kincaid and Yvette Summers

Jan Kincaid and Yvette Summers

A pioneer of the London Acid Jazz scene, Jan Kincaid translated his love for the funk grooves of the seventies into a sophisticated sound championing classic soul in an era dominated by Hip-Hop. The Brand New Heavies was originally an instrumental unit inspired by the James Brown and Meters records its members heard while clubbing the Rare Groove scene in vogue at the time.

When Jan played live in the USA he hypnotised audiences that hadn’t seen a live drummer in a long time, but especially impressed were the rap community who saw a drummer playing grooves that rappers would usually sample from old 70′s records. Legendary R&B artist Ray Charles was so impressed with the BNHs that he invited the band to play his 50th anniversary in the music biz.
